Somewhere along the line, we were taught it was our responsibility to save everyone, to be the superhero in someone else’s story, we learned to be independent while doing so. We got mixed messages. Growing up, we are taught to be strong, get educated, and have a seat at the table. So, we do just that. Then we are told we are too strong, too educated, too black, and too independent. Where were these opinions when we were struggling to survive? No one comes to help you because you have always been that woman who figures it out. Truth be told, we get weary, wounded, and in a state of despair trying to live up to someone else’s expectations of us. In the book, A Woman’s Grace, Dr. Samaria teaches us how to retire our superwoman cape, put down the S on our chest, and lean into God’s grace as a daughter of the king. We are letting go of false pressure, misguided loyalty, and our white-night syndrome to rest in God’s grace.
